SPECIES

Dorado:

The Dorado, a typical fish in the Río de La Plata basin, has a big head and b jaws and can weigh up to 20 kilos. It is also known as the "tiger of the rivers" for the fight it puts up when being captured.

Sharks:

Among the sharks inhabiting the coastal waters in Argentina, the so called bacota and the ecalandrún stand out. They reach 2.5 meter lengths and 130 kilos weights and they are fished from the shore and from a boat as well.

Tararira:

A typical fresh water fish in South America, it lives in shallow waters where it captures its prey. Its mouth is plagued with tearing teeth. Once caught it jumps out of the water to try and free itself.

Surubí:

There are two types of Surubí : the tiger like or zebra striped and the painted or sturdy one. It weights as much as sixty kilos and poses a tremendous struggle, swimming to deeper waters.

Rainbow Trout:

It owes its name to the iridescent stripe it shows in both sides. It was introduced in the beginning of the XX century.

Brown Trout:

It is characterized for its brown colour with "x" like or double "x" with a light halo spots. It reaches huge sizes for its longevity and adaptability.

The Bermejo and Juramento rivers are ideal for fly fishing or spinning, because the current is too b for they are yet mountain rivers. At the El Tunal dam in the Juramento river for instance, you can catch tarariras with fly or spinning. Trolling can be practiced at the Río Hondo eservoir.

Season:

Fishing is confined to the months from March to May and from August to November. The main reason for this are the large rivers themselves firstly, and the rainfalls polluting the water secondly.
