OVERVIEW: The ranch is located at only 45 minutes from
Santa Rosa and has a total extension of nearly 30.000 acres, almost all
consisting of forests where many big game species live, both on free range.
The ranch itself has a long story beginning in the
1880´ with the Deserts' Campaign, when the Army started the colonization of
the Patagonia. The ranch has been declared a Historic Place by the Province
government, as 2 of the buildings were constructed by that army, making it
the first base done by the white people in Province of La Pampa.
HUNTING:
General/Most of the ranch consists of wooded forests in which all the
species live. Normally, they will only come out to the grain fields to feed
(some during daylight and some at night).
Red stag:
is typically stalked inside the woods during the rut season or in the open
fields after the rut. Hunting is conducted during early mornings or late
afternoon until after dark. This is a natural species from this area and
the best trophies of the country come from this Province. This hunt may be
free ranged or fenced.
Wild boar:
is spotted only at night, by walking in the cornfields or in blinds at the
waterholes.
Buffalo:
herds live in the woods and they only come out at night. They have to be
found inside the forest (sometimes on horseback) and then stalked to try
to make (normally) a 30-50 yards shot. These animals weight sometimes over
1000Kg (2200 pounds), and although they are an introduced species, there´s
no fence that can stop them!
Puma (Cougar):
is a different hunt. We regularly bate them in different places of our
ranch and in neighbor ranches. In this way we keep them in the
surroundings of our property. Then, the normal technique is by tracking
using specially trained small dogs that will follow the cougar’s track
during daylight. We can also wait in a blind at the bait.
Fallow and Axis deer:
are stalked during their activity hours (mornings and afternoons) when
they also normally come out of the forest for feeding. This animals live
in a big fenced area.
European Mouflon:
Feral Goat, Blackbuck, Feral Sheep and Four horned Ram are stalked in
daylight and hunters have to be prepared for long range shots as these
animals are normally in open areas and have very good eyesight.
Collared and White
Lipped Peccaries: are tracked with
dogs. They live in groups (sometimes up to 15 animals per group) and our
dogs track them in the forests. They are among the most aggressive animals
we have and the hunt can turn dangerous if not properly done. Even the
pumas never attack them, as they are dangerous. Although they are from the
family of the pigs, they do no have the same upward shape in the tusks;
instead, they have their teeth more like a carnivore, so that they can
bite, causing deep injuries.
Methods for
Hunting
Rifles Recommended:
.30-06/.308 or larger for most species; however the .375 is preferable for
buffalo. Soft-point bullets are ideal for short range shots (boar, cougar,

Ballistic Tips)
for European Mouflons, Feral Goats, Blackbucks, Feral
Sheeps and Multi-horned Rams.

They are welcomed for all species.

POINTS OF INTEREST
 An
international disposition exists, which prevents to travel by aerial
with any kind of explosives. But this situation isn’t a problem to us,
because here we have ammunitions made in the USA for your Winchester
.338 and also for other calibers.
 The
"Brama" of the Red Deer doesn’t have an exact date of beginning and
neither an exact date of finishing. The particular situation is related
immediately with the sexual hungers of the specie. Most of them depend
on the climate factors in the zone.
2012: This year is very probable that it
begins between 1º / 10 of March and persists during about 25 or 30 days.
It must stand out that outside the time of "Brama" (expression that
means roar in Spanish). The deer hunting is a little more complicated
for the hunter, because you must spend more time to locate the trophy of
your preference, but not less exciting in any sense.
