When considering bow hunting in South America,Argentina is really where all the action is.

Although some good hunting is found in Southern Chile, there is nothing there that you can’t find in Argentina. Legal hunting in most of the rest of South America is limited to game farms (exotics) and special permit (cattle killing Jaguar in Bolivia).Most all the species available in Argentina have been introduced by early explorers.They have a full compliment of exotic game. The Red Deer are equal to Australia as far as trophy quality, but not in the class of New Zealand. Good wild boar hunting and excellent Puma hunting.You can hunt Puma in the daytime around water holes. If this fails there are always dogs available. While not quite as large as our North American Mountain Lion, these Puma are in good numbers and you should have better than a 70% chance of taking one.

Asiatic Water Buffalo are also available here. Although their horn configuration differs from the Australian Water Buffalo (but the same sub-specie).

I hunted Water Buffalo here because the trophy fee was less that Australia ( approx. $1800). The fishing is par with New Zealand (world class) and the wing shooting is unbelievable: On a days dove hunt, expect to shoot in excess of 1500 rounds! While duck shooting, expect 200-300 rounds per day!.The language barrier here is something to consider. Very little English is spoken or understood. There are also some horror stories about hunters getting ripped off from this part of the world. Be sure you are booked with a reputable outfitter (there are several good ones); a lesson I have learned the hard way!.They do a lot of "estate" type hunting here, similar to Western Europe. Fairly easy hunting. Huge populations of game. You will kill something here. Be sure to get all arrangements for trophy shipping hammered out before you leave (pay in advance). An option here is to bring dried hides and antlers (horns) with you as luggage (cheaper).

Argentina is a very modern country with European flair. Not a primitive country. Good transportation (I rented cars and drove myself). Most all hunts call for flying into Buenos Aires ( a town of 12 million!) where you can do some interesting shopping and sight seeing. Inter-country air fares can be a bit spendy, but is necessary to get into the great Red Deer hunting in the Western part of the country.

I always wanted to hunt Argentina and now that I have, I’m not disappointed. I will return.
